Pick Up / Drop Off Procedures

When dropping off or picking up your student at Chatham Elementary School, please enter the parking lot entrance off of Church Street (see visual here). Due to the number of parents using this lane, cars coming from Route 4 should access Church Street from Spruce Street, (just south of the Fire Station.)

  • Students may enter the building no earlier than 7:15 a.m.

  • Please use the “car visor sign” to inform supervisors of your rider.  Signs are available in the office.

  • Students should never walk across the parking lot and drop-off lane. If you (and/or your student) are walking to school, please stay on sidewalks as you enter the school grounds.

  • Please Minimize Transportation Changes

  • Parents that have the occasional schedule change need to send a note to school to communicate changes. Because all notes will go to the office, please put the teacher’s name and student’s full name on the note.

  • Any bus changes must be approved by the transportation department prior to a student boarding a bus that he/she does not normally ride.  Otherwise, students are to ride their regular bus and depart the bus at their assigned stop. If the student will be riding their regular bus, but getting off at a different stop, a note may be sent to school by the parent.

  • Any other transportation changes must be provided to the office before 1:30 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, and 9:45 a.m. on half days.

  • Please inform the office and teacher if there are persons who are not allowed to pick up your child.  Pertinent custody documents must be kept on file in the child’s school record.

Please hang up your cell phone!

Illinois law prohibits drivers from talking on cell phones in school zones.  This prohibition is meant to protect drivers and keep our students safe.
