Mrs. Elizabeth Gregurich, Principal

Mrs. Elizabeth Gregurich has been an educator for 26 years. After earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University, Mrs. Gregurich taught fourth grade in Kirkwood, Missouri, and at Riverton Elementary. In 1992 she began her career in the Ball-Chatham School District as a sixth grade language arts teacher. Throughout her years, Mrs. Gregurich has held sixth and eighth grade language arts positions, as well as team leadership, coaching, and mentoring positions. She also led teachers instructionally as the Glenwood Intermediate School Literacy Coach.

 

Mrs. Gregurich earned a Reading and Literacy Master of Arts Degree from Walden University, and then went on to receive her Master of Science Degree in Educational Leadership, from Concordia University. Mrs. Gregurich has been Principal at GIS for three years, appreciating every day as a learning experience, while motivating students to be the best individuals they can be.

 

Mrs. Gregurich and her husband, Chris, have four children, two daughters who are graduates of Glenwood High School, and a son entering GHS and a son entering Glenwood Middle School.  Her family and learning are her main hobbies, along with her passion for sports of all levels. Mrs. Gregurich is truly looking forward to another great year of working collaboratively with the community, families, students, and staff at Glenwood Intermediate School to continue the respected traditions of the Ball-Chatham School District.

 

Mr. Eric Surges, Assistant Principal

Mr. Eric Surges has been with the Ball-Chatham school district for 12 years, and is entering his fifth year as Assistant Principal at GIS. Before becoming Assistant Principal, he served as a 6th grade social studies teacher for seven years at GIS/GMS.  Prior to joining the Ball-Chatham school district, he was Assistant Principal of Ursuline Academy in Springfield.

Mr. Surges graduated with his BA from UIS in 2002, and his MS from EIU in 2003. He is originally from Joliet, Illinois, and graduated from Providence Catholic High School.  Mr. Surges is married and has two daughters.  In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his family, play golf, tennis, and guitar.​​

 
Ms. Ashley Hinds, Special Education Administrator

Ms. Ashley Hinds has been named Special Education Administrator at GIS and GMS. She had previously served the Ball-Chatham School District as a speech-language pathologist for the past 12 years, six of those years have been with Glenwood Middle and High School. 

 

Ashley graduated from Sacred-Heart Griffin High School, then attended Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. After that, she attended Saint Louis University where she graduated with a Master of Arts in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She is currently enrolled in courses at St. Francis University to obtain her Director of Special Education Endorsement.

 

About her chosen profession, she says: “I have the best job in the world. I get to work with students and staff every day in order to help them become the best that they can be. I enjoy working with students and families in order to help guide programs that are specific to that student’s needs. My goal is for all of my students to be successful in life, whatever path they may take.”

 

She has a similar, upbeat attitude about the challenges she faces in her profession. “Challenges are just speed bumps along the way. These are times when we can grow the most. I find that in times of challenges, we must be creative in coming up with programs and solutions that meet the students' needs. Challenges that require times of creativity made be caused by a deficit in time, money, or resources.”

 

Ashley has a 10-year-old daughter, Sophia, with whom she loves to run, go to the drive-in movies, and watch their garden grow!! 

 

On her own time, she enjoys volunteering at her church in their preschool program and during their Vacation Bible Blast. She says she also really enjoys working with adults with special needs after they graduate from high school.
