Ball-Chatham Increases Substitute Teacher Pay

Ball-Chatham Schools Need Teacher Subs graphic

The Ball-Chatham School District has increased its teacher substitute pay to $115 per day in an effort to yield more applicants, as demand has increased greatly. The rate was previously $105 per day.

“Our number one goal is to keep kids in school, and the only real challenge to this is our ability to keep the buildings staffed,” says Supt. Dr. Douglas Wood. “I can't say this is a guaranteed fix, but this pay increase will put us in a much better position to work through our current challenges, and secure the best when vacancies occur in the future.”

Additionally, the District will also be adjusting the substitute pay for retired Ball-Chatham teachers to $140 per day - beginning on day one - rather than waiting for day 11 to receive the increased rate. “We value the experience of our retired teachers, and hope these changes may incentivize them to consider coming back and being a teacher sub,” says Dr. Wood.

Below is a breakdown of the pay details:

  • General Classroom Teacher Sub: $115/day (1-10 days); $140/day (if covering a long-term absence or assignment for 11–90 days, and $187/day for 91-135 days)

  • Retired Ball-Chatham Teacher Sub: $140/day (1-90 days); $187/day (if covering a long-term absence or assignment for 91+ days)
