GHS Makes Plans for Graduation, Celebratory Events
Letter to Seniors, and their Parents
As we near the end of the school year, we know that you are all trying to navigate this unprecedented situation. Feelings of frustration, loss, anger, and uncertainty are all natural and expected. Please know that the staff at GHS are feeling them too. This was not the senior year any of us expected. Nevertheless, we are Titans, and to be a Titan means to overcome obstacles and thrive no matter what challenges we face.
Although we are unable to have a traditional celebration for our graduates at this time, the BCSD and our community are dedicated to honoring the Class of 2020 with true Titan spirit and pride. Thank you to all who completed the graduation option survey. We appreciate your feedback. In collaboration with our seniors and our families, our Graduation Taskforce has designed a multi-event celebration to honor the Class of 2020. While we are still finalizing the details for these events, we’re excited to offer the following:
WICS will be honoring the Class of 2020 with a program that will include individual senior portraits/pictures, pre-recorded speeches from Mayor Kimsey, Principal Szcinski, Supt. Dr. Wood, Board of Education President Bill Brewer, and many other notable speakers. Individual student and group musical performances may also be included. The program will air at 8 p.m. on May 30th, on Fox Illinois.
An Individualized Graduation Ceremony to honor each senior will be held at Glenwood High School beginning May 22nd and ending on May 29th. During this event, each graduate will have the opportunity to be recorded and photographed individually walking across the auditorium stage receiving their diploma, turning their tassel, and tossing their cap. This event was designed to commemorate each senior’s accomplishments in a personalized way by including those important to each graduate. The ceremony will allow a maximum of eight immediate family members to safely participate in their senior’s big day. Specific directions and guidelines will be provided soon. A professional video will also be created documenting this event and will be available to our families at no cost. Each senior and his or her family will have the opportunity to choose ONE date and time for their Individualized Graduation Ceremony. Students who do not complete the signup process will be assigned a date and time for their Individualized Ceremony. For instructions on how to sign up for a timeslot, please click here. Families will have access to sign up until Monday, May 18th at 11 p.m.
The 2020 modified Senior Picnic will be held at Glenwood High School on July 18th. Seniors will be invited to attend a drive-in viewing of the video created during the Individualized Graduation Ceremony, and food and beverages will be provided.
A Reunion Celebration to honor our 2020 Graduates is planned for the Summer of 2021. This event will closely resemble the traditional senior picnic.
It has been a privilege working alongside these students and their supportive families. The Class of 2020 will surely do great things. We are excited to celebrate our Titans and wish you all much success.
Feel free to contact us with any questions, feedback, or concerns. Thank you for your continued support.
