GHS Scholastic Bowl Team Victorious Against Top Teams at National Tournaments
The Glenwood High School scholastic bowl team capped a tremendous season with impressive performances at the IAC US National Championship and NAQT’s High School National Championship Tournament.
The IAC US National Championship, a history specific academic competition, was held on May 15-16. GHS sent both a varsity team and a JV team to the competition. The JV team, which finished 26th overall, consisted of Matthew Barry (So.), Lily Frazee (So.), Hannah Havrilka (So.), Ben Schwarberg (Fr.), and Lexi Wienhoff (So.). The varsity team notched several impressive wins, including a win over top national team Buffalo Grove (IL), en route to qualifying for the upper playoff bracket and falling just short of the knockout round. The varsity team consisted of Nick Barry (Sr.), Trey Moulton (Sr.), Daniel Park (Sr.), Noah Yeager (Jr.), and Allie Young (Sr.).
The High School National Championship Tournament, which is NAQT’s premier high school tournament, was held on May 29-30. GHS sent one team to HSNCT, consisting of Nick Barry (Sr.), Nikhil Gupta (Jr.), Trey Moulton (Sr.), Daniel Park (Sr.), Noah Yeager (Jr.), and Allie Young (Sr.). The Titans knocked off several top teams, including Waukee (IA), Westview (CA), and Canyon Crest (CA). The Titans were ultimately eliminated by eventual runner-up University Lab (IL), but had a great showing in their first HSNCT since 2011.
