Meet GHS' New Administrators!

Glenwood High School has two new administrators this year. Ms. Dowis is a familiar face to many here in Ball-Chatham - she is a Glenwood grad, and previously served at a teacher at Glenwood Middle School. Mr. Joiner comes to GHS from Mulberry Grove School District #1 and says that he is excited to join Titan Nation!

Ms. Sarah Dowis

Sarah Dowis, Glenwood High School Assistant Principal

Ms. Sarah Dowis was named Assistant Principal of Glenwood High School, effective July 1, 2019. She attended grades K-12 all at the Ball-Chatham School District, graduating from Glenwood High School in 2003! She then earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a focus in English and Middle School in 2008. She earned a Master’s of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 2016.

Ms. Dowis says that she has had the privilege of working in the Ball-Chatham School District for all 11 years of her career. In those years, she has had the opportunity to teach 6th, 7th, and 8th grade ELA, 7th grade Science, Drama 1 & 2, and Public Speaking. She was also the Speech and Drama Squad coach, Student Council sponsor, and 8th grade D.C. trip program leader.

She says she feels lucky to have chosen a career that she is passionate about, adding, “Although there are so many things I love about education as a profession, cultivating meaningful relationships and promoting growth mindset are by far my favorite.”

About the challenges she sees in education, she says, “Like any profession, education does have its share of challenges. In spite of those, I am committed to maintaining our District’s focus on the academic success and social/emotional well-being of all our students.”

On her own time, she loves spending time with family and friends, reading, and attending concerts! She and Craig have one daughter, Charlotte; and a Border Collie/Labrador, Allie.

Mr. Justin Joiner

Justin Joiner, Assistant Principal at Glenwood High School

Mr. Joiner began serving as an Assistant Principal at Glenwood High School in August 2019. Prior to his appointment at Ball-Chatham, he was a Driver's Education / Elementary PE teacher at Mulberry Grove School District #1 from 2008-2019.

He received his Bachelor's degree from Greenville College in Education, and his LBS-1 Special Education Certification, in 2003. He received his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership in 2011 from Eastern Illinois University.

Mr. Joiner was named “Elementary PE Teacher of the Year” for the Southwestern District of IAHPERD, and was able to secure a rock climbing wall, and inflatable obstacle course through local grants while at Mulberry Grove.

About his profession, he says he enjoys that it allows him to make a positive impact. “On any given day, I can be the person that makes a difference in a student’s life.”


He and his wife, Tara, have two girls, Nori, and Ceri. He says he enjoys going to car shows in his 1978 Monte Carlo, concerts, playing board games with his friends and family, and camping.
