Message from Supt. Dr. Wood Regarding the Passing of Brendon Meyers

It is with a heavy heart that I share this message with our community about a recent tragic accident that resulted in the death of a former GHS student, Brendon Meyers. Brendon grew up in our community, and had only recently transferred to the Athens High School at the beginning of the last semester. Brendon was a running back/linebacker for the Glenwood Titans football team, and was a naturally athletic young man. He was a hard worker - always trying his best for others, including his teammates, coaches, and friends. He was caring, kind, and a great big brother to his younger siblings. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Brendon’s family and friends.

Coping with the death of a student is never easy. Family and friends feel the loss most intensely - to that I can personally attest - but our entire community mourns when we lose someone so young.

To help our students who are hurting and grieving this terrible loss, our counseling team at the high school will be available for any of our high school students who need to talk with someone. They will be available Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, and 1-3 p.m. Please call GHS at 483-2424 ext.1005 to set up an individual appointment. Please remember to wear a mask when entering the building. Students may also email their counselor to set up a Zoom meeting.

Please feel free to contact your school’s office if you have any questions and/or concerns about your child’s well-being.

Sincerely,

Supt. Dr. Douglas Wood
