Parents of students with speech services will have the opportunity to take part in a 3-hour, web-based family education class on September 17. The class will introduce parents and other family members to parts of steps 1-5 of an evidenced-based, 8-step instructional model that are used at the Technology and Language Center (TALC). Additionally, parents will be taught to model on their children’s speech-generating devices, set goals for the training, learn why modeling is so important, verbally rehearse the steps to successful modeling, see videos of other families modeling AAC at home, and practice modeling their child’s communication board, book, or device. NOTE: A communication board, book, emulation software, or device is required for participation exercises.
