Sarah Scott Yakus Memorial Scholarship, and Recipient, GHS Grad Nolan Mueller

Scholarship recipient, Nolan Mueller, and Sarah Yakus' parents

"Humbled" was just one of the initial reactions of Glenwood graduate, Nolan Mueller, the first recipient of the Sarah Mildred Scott Memorial Scholarship at Lincoln Land Community College. The scholarship was established by Jere and Vicky Galloway Scott in memory of their daughter, Sarah Mildred (Scott) Yakus. Sarah taught math at Glenwood Middle School, before being named Assistant Principal at Glenwood Elementary School.

The $2,000 scholarship will be awarded to LLCC students in a math or education-related field of study. This scholarship has an extra special meaning for Nolan, as Ms. (Scott) Yakus was his much-loved 7th grade math teacher. Nolan explained in his thank you letter to the Scott’s: “Your daughter will have a lasting impact on me, as she was the first teacher that helped me discover not only how much I had loved going to Glenwood, but also instilled in me a love of math.”
