    REGULAR MEETING BALL-CHATHAM COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT #5 - Closed Session - 5:15 p.m.; Regular Session - 6:30 p.m. (Wednesday, August 23, 2023) The following is a summation of the items discussed and those that were approved, as well as links to those items in the Board packet. -Dr. Lamon’s short video recap is HERE, -A link to the entire Board packet can be found here. -The full meeting video is on the BCSD Youtube channel Procedural: 2.2 Pledge of Allegiance Action: 2.3 Roll Call 3. APPROVAL OF AGENDA Action: 3.1 Approval of Agenda Action: 3.2 Action Items from Closed Session The board voted to approve all action items from the closed session. 4. COMMUNICATIONS 4.1 - Strategic Plan Update: Dr. Lamon presented this information regarding vision, goals, and projects for 2023/2024, to the Board. Information: 4.4 Citizens- Opportunity for Visitors to Address the School Board Concerning any Agenda Topic No citizens spoke. 5. BUDGET HEARING Charlotte Montgomery, BCSD CSBO, presented a report on the tentative FY2024 budget and took questions from the Board. The budget will be reviewed at the Budget Hearing at the September Board meeting on September 27, 2024 at 6:30 p.m. at the District Office, 201 W. Mulberry, Chatham, IL 62629. 6.-7. CONSENT ITEMS AND PERSONNEL CONSENT ITEMS The Board adopted all items under the relevant sections listed here. 8. NEW BUSINESS Mike Dobbs, Dir. of Facilities and Grounds, presented bids for the items listed in section 8 here. All were approved. 9. COMMUNICATIONS Information: 9.1 Future Board Meeting Dates Upcoming Board of Education meeting dates for 2023/24 school year: Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at 4:00 PM - Facilities and Grounds Meeting - District Office Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at 4:00 PM - Finances Committee - District Office Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at 6:30 PM (Open Session) - Regular Board of Education Meeting - District Office Information: 9.2 Citizens - Opportunity for Visitors to Address the School Board Concerning Any Topic -Jo Barnard addressed the Board to share her thoughts and concerns regarding transportation problems and school start times. -Georgie Euler addressed the Board to share her thoughts and concerns regarding transportation problems and school start times. -John Freml addressed the Board to share his thoughts and concerns regarding bathroom access and hateful comments made against transgender students by members of the community in public social media forums. 10. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned.

    The Ball-Chatham Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on August 23 at the Ball-Chatham District Office - 201 W. Mulberry in Chatham. Those who wish to address the Board must do so in person from the podium. They must also state their names in order to be recorded in the meeting minutes. Guests have five minutes to address the Board. Those who are unable to attend but who wish to communicate directly with our board members may email them at BCSDBoardofEducation@bcsd5.org. Please note, however, that email communications will not be read aloud. Though the meetings are no longer live-streamed, a video summation of the items discussed and those that were approved will be available the on the District's YouTube channel within 24 hours of the meeting. The full video of the meeting will also be available for viewing on the District's YouTube channel at that time. Finally, a written summation of the meeting will be available on the District's website within 24 hours of the meeting.     The Ball-Chatham Board of Education met for an additional meeting at the District Office in Chatham, IL on Wednesday, August 9, 2023. The following is a summation of the items discussed and those that were approved, as well as links to those items in the Board packet. As this specific meeting lasted less than 10 minutes, Dr. Lamon did not record a recap of the meeting. The entire meeting is available to stream below. CONSENT ITEMS Action: 4.1 Adoption of Consent Personnel Agenda Items Board Vice President Calderon asked if anyone would like to pull any items from the personnel consent agenda items. None were noted. Board Vice President called for a motion. Phipps moved to approve the Consent Personnel Agenda Items as presented. Upon said motion being seconded by Murphy, the Board Vice President called for a vote. All present board members voted "yes." The board adopted consent and personnel consent agenda items, which can be found here. K-Camp is an opportunity to bring your Kindergartener to BES to have fun learning more about Kindergarten and for parents to receive some need-to-know information before school begins. Time: If your last name begins with A-L, 8:30-10:00 (doors open at 8:30) If your last name begins with M-Z, 10:30-12:00 (doors open at 10:30) Please enter BES through the main entrance. Parents will check-in and walk their students to the kindergarten classrooms, take a self-guided tour of BES and then meet administration in the library for an informational session.
