K-Camp is an opportunity to bring your Kindergartener to CES to have fun learning more about Kindergarten and for parents to receive some need-to-know information before school begins. Time: If your last name begins with A-L, 8:30-10:00 (doors open at 8:30) If your last name begins with M-Z, 10:30-12:00 (doors open at 10:30) Please enter Chatham Elementary through the main entrance. Parents will check-in and walk their students to the kindergarten classrooms, take a self-guided tour of CES and then meet administration in the cafeteria for an informational session.   • Board Meeting Recap

    The Ball-Chatham Board of Education met for its regularly scheduled meeting at the District Office in Chatham, IL on Wednesday, July 26, 2023. The following is a summation of the items discussed and those that were approved, as well as links to those items in the Board packet. Additionally, here is a link to Supt. Dr. Lamon’s video recap of the meeting. COMMUNICATIONS Opportunity for Visitors to Address the School Board Concerning any Agenda Topic. None were noted. CONSENT ITEMS The board adopted consent and personnel consent agenda items, which can be found here. NEW BUSINESS Presentation: - Superintendent Year in Review Dr. Becca Lamon provided a year in review presentation regarding her first year with Ball-Chatham. She highlighted school visits, community involvement, new leadership involvement, and recognitions throughout the district. Title IX Update - Dr. Lamon provided an update on the progress of the Title IX OCR Investigation. She shared that the process is still ongoing and that she will update the board and the community further in a couple of months. Bids - Mike Dobbs, Director of Facilities & Grounds, presented and received board approval for bids regarding GHS restroom partitions, GHS auditorium lighting, and a radiator replacement projects. First Reading of PRESS Policy updates - The policies that were up for first reading are online here. Threat Assessment Team - Dr. Lamon presented the following staff and community members as the 2023/24 school year district Threat Assessment Team: Randy Allen - Director of Safety and Security Becca Lamon - Superintendent Aimee Sutton - Teacher GIS Allyson Mann - Counselor GMS Kayla Bimm - Psychologist Marne Countryman - Social Worker Verne Foli - Chief of Chatham Police Department The board voted to approve this team.     The Ball-Chatham Board of Education will hold a regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. on July 26 at the Ball-Chatham District Office - 201 W. Mulberry in Chatham. Those who wish to address the Board must do so in person, from the podium. They must also state their names in order to be recorded in the meeting minutes. Those who are unable to attend but who wish to communicate directly with our board members may email them at BCSDBoardofEducation@bcsd5.org. Please note, however, that email communications will not be read aloud. Though the meetings are no longer live-streamed, a video summation of the items discussed and those that were approved will be available the on the District's YouTube channel within 24 hours of the meeting. The full video of the meeting will also be available for viewing on the District's YouTube channel at that time. Finally, a written summation of the meeting will be available on the District's website within 24 hours of the meeting.   • GHS Important Dates

    Here are some calendar items to keep in mind over the next four weeks: Online registration closes Aug 7 Any student that would like to park in the GHS parking lot next year needs to fill out the Parking Pass Form prior Friday, July 28th. Parking at GHS next year will not be assigned, however students will still be required to have a sticker in their vehicle to park in the lot. Students will be able to pick up their sticker the first week of school during the lunches. 8/1 -8/3 Titan Encounter for incoming Freshmen Freshmen can pick one of the three dates to come to GHS from 10:00-1:00 to learn Canvas, walk their schedule, go through a welcome to GHS course and have a pizza lunch in the commons.   • School Board Meeting Recap 6/21/23

    The Ball-Chatham Board of Education met for its regularly scheduled meeting at the District Office in Chatham, IL on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. The following is a summation of the items discussed and those that were approved, as well as links to those items in the Board packet. Additionally, here is a link to Supt. COMMUNICATIONS Recognition of State Finalists in Track and Soccer Congratulations to the GMS and GHS students who qualified or placed at a state competition this spring. Recognition of CACC Second Semester Students of the Month Congratulations to the CACC Students of the Month from January through April. One Cent County Sales Tax Presentation Dr. Lamon provided an overview of the One Cent Country Sales tax. She shared the history of the tax and how the district has spent the funds for the past three years. In addition, she shared the proposed projects for FY24 (July 1, 2023- June 30, 2024) and FY 25 (July 1, 2024- June 30, 2025) A copy of the presentation is available from this link. BUDGET HEARING Budget Hearing for FY2022 Budget Amendments Charlotte Montgomery, BCSD Chief Business Officer, fielded one question about the amended budget and explained that the amendment is a process in which the district can make changes to the original budget that was approved in September 2022 to reflect how funds were spent. A budget is a proposal to spend funds and there are events and emergencies that shift how funds are spent. Approve FY2023 Amended Budget The amended budget was approved by a unanimous vote by Calderon, Murphy, Phipps, Rediger, Bryant and Saunders. CONSENT ITEMS The following items were approved by one consent vote: Minutes of Regular Board Meeting, May 31, 2023 Minutes of Facilities and Grounds Committee Meeting, June 7, 2023 Treasurer/Financial Report School District Accounts Payable School Activity Account Reports FOIA Requests Second Reading of PRESS Policies PERSONNEL CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS Starting this month, Board Docs has a new streamlined look. Categories have been established in the personnel consent area to make information more accessible. Click each link to see the items approved. Resignations New Hires Retirements - none Transfers Leaves of Absence - none Reclassifications Administrative Contracts 2023/24 A few administrative contracts had some errors that needed to be corrected from the May meeting.The corrections did not pertain to salary. The corrections were related to a change in language from TRS to IMFR and a correction in the number of sick days (Wheeler). NEW BUSINESS Paper Bid Results The paper bid was awarded to Contract Paper Group, inc. at $33.10 per case. New District Office Project Dr. Lamon gave a presentation on the benefits of renovating and moving to the new district office, formerly the WSEC PBS Station. The presentation can be obtained in this link. BCSD Fire and Burglar Alarm Systems Thompson Electronics was awarded the district's Fire and Burglar alarm contract. The contract is for three (3) years beginning July 1, 2023, and ending June 30, 2026, and includes all district facilities. The recommendation is based on the bid amount of $5,760 per year for monitoring and $6,510 per year for inspections and testing. The vendor has verified through the RFP process that they possess adequate staffing and equipment to professionally maintain the district's fire and security systems. Non-ESP Raises ESP staff members who are not members of the union were given a 4% raise. Raises for School Safety Officers The base salary of the SSO staff was adjusted to $25.00 per hour. Staff members already over the new base were given a 4% raise.
