Office of the Superintendent

Dear Titan Families,

Well, here we are.  It seems as though our first day of remote learning and social distancing was a least a year ago.  Being restricted in ways we thought were not possible has changed our way of living, communicating, and learning.  I must say that I could not be more proud of the students, staff, and families of Titan Nation.  As expected, we have a few items we needed to adjust, but overall the experience has been very positive.  In large part, this has been due to the cooperative efforts of us all.  That includes you.  Thank you!

We are excited about the plans that we have in place for our 2020 graduates and their families.  They have certainly endured a lot these past several weeks, and we want to do all we can to provide a memorable ceremony.  Our graduates, as well as all of the students, have shown a tremendous amount of maturity and poise.  You are Rock Stars! It is easy to express the pride and sincere appreciation I have for our graduates and our staff who have stepped-up, seen the silver lining, and look at the glass half-full.

Having experienced dealing with the unknown, and meeting the challenge, we now are better prepared to plan moving forward.  We have a Pandemic Response Team that has met and will meet again to collaboratively plan for the next steps.  Data is presented each day on a State and National level.  While taking this into consideration, there are several variables we will consider as we plan for students to return for the 2020-2021 school year.  Our number one objective, regardless of COVID19 or any other issue, is student, staff, and community safety.  All precautions will be taken to return as safely as possible.  This will include additional cleaning and sanitation, installation of hand sanitizers in all classrooms and stations, new and upgraded hand washing stations were advisable; and/or needed. In addition, we will maintain the use of masks for individuals in at-risk categories, and maintain social distancing standards as applicable.  This being said, please note that the Governor’s executive orders and guidance from ISBE can/may influence decisions and plans moving forward.

I would also like to thank our Board of Education during these trying times.  They too share in the successes we have had.  My staff and I will be providing additional updates to keep you informed of any important information related to summer activities and decisions related to the beginning of the 202-2021 school year.

On a final note, we will continue to assist our families by offering Grab-n-Go meals during the month of June.  This will occur each Tuesday, June 2, 9, 16, 23, and 30 at GIS for curbside pick-up from 7:30-10:00 a.m.  Chad Martel (Food Service Director) and his team have done a great job of providing meals to our families.  To date, we have distributed approximately 30,000 meals. Great job team!

With Titan Pride,
